The 10-day Challenge

Building My Personal Brand on Social Media

That's me, fresh from the salon two days ago. Next stop was Taco Bell because my husband was working late and I wasn't about to cook in the 100 degree heat! A fresh blow-out and a bean burrito = happy dance.

So, I started a social media challenge yesterday that I'm pretty excited about. Putting myself out into the digital world is something I struggle with because I value the heck out of my privacy.  But, much of what we do is online these days, from work to play, and I need to suck it up and start sharing so I can grow my audience, and more importantly, start to solidify my personal brand.

The challenge is simple: post on your personal social media so your audience can learn about the person behind the business. The challenge is presented by one of my favorite copy gurus and all-around badass, Alex Cattoni of The Copy Posse.

Why is it important to show your personal brand?

Because People Trust People more than they trust businesses. (Dain Walker, owner of Rivyl).

In a world where so much communication and transaction is done online, it is more important than ever for businesses to demonstrate not just their "why" but the "who." As consumers, we want to know who we buy from and what they stand for. A personal brand has never been more important.

The first social media post was the announcement that I was going to be participating in this challenge and offered a few adjectives I'd use to describe myself.

  • Honest

  • Loves to Laugh

  • Animal Enthusiast

  • Book Worm

  • Respectful & Kind

While I use these words to describe myself as a person, I also want clients and potential clients to know the sort of copywriter I am. That is to say: the values that are important to me (beyond this list) will transpire into our working, professional relationship.

If you haven't already read it, you can learn a bit more about the culture of my business on my "About" page. In the meantime, here's to the next 10 days of me being vulnerable.

Cheers!
